by Carito Aguirre.
I’m 34 years old and have a huge passion for outdoor sports—especially recreational cycling. For me, it’s not just about pedaling; it’s about living the experience: discovering new landscapes, connecting with nature, and enjoying every corner of this paradise we call Costa Rica.

Cycling has taught me that you don’t need to be a professional to get started; you just need the desire, curiosity, and a little bit of courage. And if you’re here, you’ve probably already taken that first step.

Why start cycling?
Because it represents freedom, health, and therapy for both the soul and the body. Because every route tells a new story.
Plus, it’s one of the best ways to lose weight!

That’s actually why I started—it’s incredible how many calories you burn while having fun at the same time. In fact, I’m so into it that I’m thinking about creating a channel dedicated solely to documenting my cycling adventures. But anyway, I’ll figure that out later; for now, I’m just enjoying the ride and learning as I go. So, here are a few tips for you. PURA VIDA!

Tips for Beginners

1. Choose the right bike (not necessarily the most expensive one)
You don’t need the most expensive bike on the market to get started. Look for one that suits your style:

Mountain bike: If you like rural roads or trails.
Road bike: If you prefer riding on asphalt.
Hybrid bike: If you want a mix of both.
The most important thing is that it feels comfortable for *you*.

2. Adjust your bike to fit your body
Good posture is everything. Adjust the height of your seat and handlebars to avoid discomfort. Your body will thank you from the very first kilometer.

3. Start slowly
You don’t need to tackle long routes right from the start. Begin with short rides and gradually increase the distance over time. Remember: this isn’t a race.

4. Get the basic gear—but get it right
A helmet (always!), hydration, comfortable clothing, and plenty of enthusiasm. That’s more than enough to get you started.

5. Enjoy the process
Don’t compare yourself to others. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Every cyclist has their own pace, their own story, and their own path. The important thing is that you enjoy every single pedal stroke.

My most important piece of advice:
Don’t wait until you’re “ready.” Start exactly as you are. Cycling doesn’t just transform your body—it transforms the way you view life.

Every ride is an opportunity to grow, take a deep breath, and remember that you are capable of far more than you think.

If you’re thinking about getting started, I promise you this:
That first time might be tough… but it could also be the beginning of something truly life-changing

THANK YOU!
