Debbie and Patty were raised in Playa Tamarindo, Costa Rica, dreaming of stylish, comfortable, and sustainable swimwear. However, in the early days—before the town transformed into the vibrant hotspot it is now—the options for quality swimwear were few and far between. Rather than settling, they decided to take matters into their own hands.

The sisters started by designing and sewing bikinis from their father’s old t-shirts, a creative but ultimately imperfect solution. The fabric didn’t quite have the stretch they needed, so their mother stepped in to help, guiding them toward finding the proper materials. And that was the turning point—what began as a hobby soon blossomed into something much bigger.

They started by crafting swimwear for themselves, their sisters, and cousins, but as word spread, they realized their passion could become a business. What started in their home soon grew into a thriving brand, and thus, De’lohana Swimwear was born.

Today, De’lohana represents more than just swimwear—it’s a celebration of body positivity and confidence for women of all shapes and sizes. The brand focuses on offering the perfect balance of style, comfort, and functionality, creating swimwear that enhances not just your look, but your confidence, too. Each bikini is crafted with care in Costa Rica, using SPF 50 natural polyamide nylon—a 100% biodegradable material designed to protect both you and the planet.

What sets De’lohana apart is not only the quality of its designs, but the values behind the brand. Through a unique program, every piece is handmade by single mothers, many of whom are the primary breadwinners for their families. This partnership allows these talented women to create something they are passionate about, all while improving their families’ lives.

We are incredibly proud to work with these skilled seamstresses and are deeply grateful for the dedication and strength they bring to our team. At De’lohana, we don’t just create beautiful swimwear—we empower women, celebrate sustainability, and support families within our community.

The marina wakes up early. Before the sun burns the pink off the horizon, crews are already loading bait, checking lines, and swapping the kind of dockside predictions that sound half science, half folklore. One captain says the billfish were running blue water...
