Festival at Lake Arenal

Festival Madre Tierra celebrates its fifth edition with a renewed vision: to strengthen the connection with the communities around Lake Arenal and Monteverde. We’ll do this through small but meaningful activities that plant the seeds of awareness and action for the planet.

Since its first edition in 2020—when it began as a series of virtual talks and live music during the pandemic—the festival has evolved every year. In recent editions, the celebration took place at Parque del Lago in Nuevo Arenal, with music, an eco-fair, and activities for all ages. This year, the festival is expanding and decentralizing, bringing its message to schools, businesses, and community spaces in Nuevo Arenal, El Asentamiento, Río Piedras, Tronadora, El Castillo, and Monteverde. We’ll also be present at Finca Alquimia, Rancho Margot, Lake Arenal Jungle Resort, Moya’s Place, and the Los Amigos School in Monteverde.

Under the theme “Festival Madre Tierra – Itinerant and International. Pollinating the Future and Cultivating Knowledge,” we aim to make a real impact in the region. The key is joining efforts through everyday actions—thinking globally while acting locally. Every talk, workshop, or gathering is a seed of change, an opportunity to inspire more people to take action for the planet.

This festival is made possible thanks to the collaborative work of the Red de Pueblos Polinizadores, Nativas Lab, Casas Vida Libre, Lake Arenal Adventures, Aire Libre Adventures, Andru Bec, and Jimmy Loop, with the support of the Lago Arenal-Tenorio Biological Corridor and the Pájaro Campana Biological Corridor… and every one of the venues mentioned above, where activities will take place.

Our goal is to connect communities, promote respect for life, and strengthen the culture of pollinator conservation—which is ultimately a culture of care, respect, and love for nature and human relationships.

The invitation is open: from home, from school, from work—everyone can be part of the change.

The difference often shows up at breakfast. In one hotel, the papaya was shipped in, the staff barely earns enough to stay nearby, and the “eco” label lives mostly on the brochure. In another, the fruit came from down the road, the guide leading your mangrove tour...

You can feel the difference before you even sign a contract. A hillside condo in Costa Rica might greet you with an ocean view, a shared pool, and a lock-and-leave ease that suits long absences. A house, by contrast, often starts with a gate, a garden, and the quiet...

Charter Fishing in Costa Rica: What to Know

The marina wakes up early. Before the sun burns the pink off the horizon, crews are already loading bait, checking lines, and swapping the kind of dockside predictions that sound half science, half folklore. One captain says the billfish were running blue water...
