It will be on Sunday, July 21 , starting at 11 am in the garden of the National Museum . The San José Concert Band prepared a repertoire with very happy music dedicated to the Guanacaste province; highlights the premiere of the work “By our will”, by the Costa Rican composer, director and arranger Víctor Hugo Berrocal, who will be the guest conductor for this concert, in addition, the Band will be accompanied by the singer, tenor Ernesto Rodríguez Montero.
The Museum and the Band invite you to bring scarves, chonetes and typical costumes to celebrate and win some of the prizes prepared for the public who attend the concert.
Admission is free for nationals and residents upon presentation of identification.
The concert “From the homeland for our will” is a tribute to Guanacaste, a diverse province, with enormous cultural and environmental wealth. A large number of the typical or folk songs that are performed in educational centers in Costa Rica come from that region, among them Punto Guanacasteco, El torito, Pasión, Amor deseasona, Pampa, Luna liberiana, Caballito nicoyano and many others. Composers such as Jesús Bonilla Chavarría, Héctor Zúñiga Rovira, Medardo Guido and Ulpiano Duarte stand out in this province.
“The commemoration of the Nicoya Party in Costa Rica will be nourished by different activities, so we invite the public to visit the MCJ pages – website and social networks – to enjoy this offer proposed by the Ministry of Culture and Youth for this month” invited the vice minister of culture Vera Beatriz Vargas León.
The Costa Rican composer Víctor Hugo Berrocal will premiere the work “By Our Will”, written especially to celebrate the bicentennial of the Annexation. Berrocal has a vast career as an arranger for popular groups, symphonic bands and even for the National Symphony Orchestra (OSN), he is a trumpeter and has a life dedicated to musical creation.
For this concert, the singer Ernesto Rodríguez Montero will accompany him, who is a tenor, professor, vocal pedagogue and researcher. He is currently the director of the School of Musical Arts at the University of Costa Rica. He has a Master’s degree in singing, and an extensive resume, with numerous performances both in Costa Rica and abroad. In 2010 and 2016 he received the National Music Award as the best singer in Costa Rica and in 2017 he was declared “Liberia’s Favorite Son.”
