VIVE LA MUSICA

One of the things I missed the most from the States, when I moved here 20 years ago, was the lack of good live music. I always enjoyed going to outside bars and listening to a good acoustic jam session or heading out to the local rock show.

For years in CR we only had a few guys that came and went like Bob Benjamin and the Leatherbacks, who always put on a good show. But for the most part we only had a few venues and only in the high season.
But as the mid 2000´s rolled around, things began to pick up and all types of musicians were showing up with all kinds of genres and their own unique styles that fit perfectly in this eclectic melting pot that is the Gold Coast. We began to have all types of live music popping up and that brought more and more new artists to the area in a healthy competition that truly benefited all the music buffs in the area.
Now in the last few years we truly have it all, and I’m loving it! You can go to local bars and restaurants and hear Latin, folk, marimba, house and classic acoustic jams at any time. We even have big concerts and raves during the big weeks that even include classical concerts a few times a year!
Over the past few years I have been bartending at Latitude Blue and the Owner Michael is committed to having a nightly variety of local musicians. I especially like the Tingos and my buddy Darin Talbot who comes down every winter and stays with me, so I’m always around the best local music. I have seen an increase in new guys like Joe Hrbek, Kimi Tortugas and Will Mathews who all promise to make the scene better for everyone. I will be working at Latitude Blue on Wednesdays and Saturdays with Darin (www.darintalbot.com) who does live shows all over the area 6 nights a week.
